10 Things To Watch On Disney Plus

10 Things To Watch On Disney Plus

Hey guys!

Hope you’re all doing well and are staying safe! It seems like forever since we were able to travel, socialise and go to work/school/uni, and I’m sure you’ll be getting kind of restless now. I know I have been getting bored of staying at home all day and wishing I could go out!

I’ve been trying to keep myself busy the last couple of months, and one of the things I’ve really enjoyed is Disney Plus. In case you’re not familiar with Disney Plus, it’s a new TV show and movie subscription service from Disney Plus, a bit like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Disney Plus has a whole range of TV series and films so you’re spoiled for choice – from Disney classics like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical and Camp Rock, to teen flicks such as 10 Things I Hate About You and The Princess Diaries, to Pixar faves Toy Story, Inside Out and Monster’s Inc, there’s something for everyone. Here’s some of the TV series and films I’d recommend on Disney Plus….

  1. Lizzie McGuire

Lizzie McGuire is a Disney classic, and if you haven’t seen it yet, or like me you only watched a handful of episodes as a kid, now is the perfect time to binge-watch it. Surprisingly, there are only 2 seasons of Lizzie McGuire, with around 30 half-an-hour episodes each, so you’ve literally got no excuse not to watch it! Lizzie McGuire is absolutely hilarious and stars Hilary Duff as a junior high student who has to deal with crushes, boy drama, overprotective parents and a meddling younger brother. Lizzie McGuire has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, and the friendship between Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda is goals.

One of my fave episodes!
  1. Cow Belles

Can you believe that the first time I watched Cow Belles was only a couple of weeks ago?! If you love Aly & AJ, or want to watch a light-hearted comedy about a couple of sisters, I’d recommend Cow Belles. Aly and AJ play two spoiled sisters who are forced to work for the first time at their father’s dairy farm after they accidently set their kitchen on fire. After a rocky start at their new job, the two girls join forces to help the employees at the farm when all the company’s funds disappear.

  1. The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music has been my favourite film since I was around 4 or 5, so I was overjoyed when I found out that it would be on Disney Plus. I love ALL the songs – especially ‘Sixteen Going On Seventeen’, ‘So Long Farewell’ and ‘My Favourite Things’ – and the story is really heart-warming. The setting always made me want to visit Salzburg and the Alps: I fully intend on going to both destinations and do a Sound of Music tour when it’s safe to travel again!

  1. 10 Things I Hate About You

I never knew that 10 Things I Hate About You was owned by Disney, so I was really surprised when I saw it on Disney Plus. 10 Things I Hate About You is an iconic teen movie, and one of my favourite films of all time. It’s loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and stars Julia Stiles, Larisa Oleynik, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the late Heath Ledger. 10 Things I Hate About You has a clever script and the acting is great all around, which is rare for a teen movie. If you haven’t seen it already, you’re definitely missing out!

10 Things To Watch On Disney Plus
  1. Lady and the Tramp

While it lacks some of the magic of the original animated film, the recent live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp is still entertaining and will undoubtedly tug on your heartstrings. As with the 1955 classic, Disney Plus’s Lady and the Tramp focuses on a pampered dog who embarks on an adventure with an unexpected new canine friend. Be sure to grab some tissues as you’re bound to cry at some point during the film!

10 things to watch on Disney Plus

  1. Freaky Friday

Many of you might not realise that the 2003 teen flick Freaky Friday is actually a remake of a 1976 film of the same name. I haven’t got round to watching the 1976 film yet, but both versions are available on Disney Plus and centre on a mother and daughter who swap bodies. Will they be able to reverse the switch or will they be stuck in each other’s bodies forever?

10 things to watch on Disney Plus

  1. The Lion King

You know a film is good when it finishes and you want to watch it all over again. Remakes are a bit hit and miss, but The Lion King is definitely up there with Cinderella (2015) as one of the best I’ve seen. Prior to watching The Lion King, I’d heard negative things about the use of CGI in the film, but I personally thought it made the animals seem so much more realistic. Simba was absolutely adorable and Scar was even creepier than in the animated film. The songs are brilliant too, although nothing can compare to the original soundtrack.

Had to include two GIFs because Simba is just so cute!
  1. Dumbo

Although I’ve only seen the animated film a couple of times when I was very young, I was drawn to the 2019 remake of Dumbo due to the fact that it is directed by Tim Burton and stars Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Sharon Rooney. Not to mention that baby Dumbo looked so cute in the trailer!

Dumbo was one of the best films I saw last year and I’d recommend adding it to your Disney Plus Watchlist. The acting from all the cast is outstanding, and I loved the bond between the two children and the elephant. I loved the circus element – it reminded me of The Greatest Showman. Dumbo is a moving film that made me cry in parts; it broke my heart seeing how harshly Dumbo was treated, just because he has different ears to other elephants and can fly.

While Dumbo is unlikely to be remembered as a Tim Burton classic, and its plot is very different to that of the original film, it is still a lovely movie that will make you laugh and cry.

10 things to watch on Disney Plus

  1. Stargirl

Stargirl is a sweet coming of age film based on Jerry Spinelli’s bestselling novel of the same name. it centres on a teenage boy who is drawn to confident new girl, who goes by the name ‘Stargirl’ and changes his life. Expect quirky outfits and plenty of fun songs (Stargirl is played by America’s Got Talent winner Grace Vanderwaal).

10 things to watch on Disney Plus

  1. The Princess and the Frog

Overshadowed by the likes of Frozen and Tangled, The Princess and the Frog is a hidden gem in the Disney princess movie collection. The film draws on the culture of New Orleans and centres on Tiana, an African-American girl who is kind-hearted, brave and ambitious. Tiana is passionate about cooking and dreams of opening her own restaurant, but this is derailed when Prince Naveen and the evil Dr Facilier show up.10 things to watch on Disney Plus

Lizzie Mcguire and Cow Belles were two of my favourite things to watch growing up. I used to spend most evenings after school rewatching them when I wasn’t watching Hannah Montana or Wizards of Waverley Place. I got Disney + recently and I have yet to watch these again and relive the nostalgic moments of childhood! Great recommendations 🙂

I was about to comment something along the lines of, “I’ve basically seen everything on Disney+” when I realized… you have at least 3 things on this list that I haven’t seen. Oh wow! I’m late to the party haha. I gotta watch some of these super soon.
