April 2021 Playlist

April 2021 Playlist

Hey guys!

Hope you’re all having a great Bank Holiday weekend! I visited Southwark Park on the weekend and it’s become one of my favourite parks – the Ada Salter Garden is stunning and I can’t wait to visit in a few weeks’ time when the wisteria has fully bloomed! Today I’m going to share a playlist of the songs I’ve listened to during April.

Demi Lovato FINALLY dropped her seventh album ‘Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over’ at the beginning of April, and if you haven’t heard it already, you’re seriously missing out! ‘Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over’ is an incredible and I absolutely LOVE every single song on the album. While songs like ‘Anyone’ and ‘Dancing With The Devil’ really highlight Demi’s powerful vocals, a number of the tracks on the second half of the album show a softer side to her voice (e.g. ‘The Art Of Starting Over’ and ‘Melon Cake’). The album is best played to in order, as it takes the listener on a journey from mid-2018, when Demi relapsed, to her relationship with Max Elrich (who she sings about in ’15 Minutes’), and to 2021, when Demi is the happiest she’s been in a long time (‘Good Place’). There are also a few collaborations on ‘Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over’, with Sam Fischer, Saweetie, Noah Cyrus and Ariana Grande. It’s so hard to decide which songs from the album are my favourite, as they’re all so amazing, but the standout tracks are definitely ‘Dancing With The Devil’, ‘Met Him Last Night’, ‘Lonely People’, ‘Easy’ and ‘Melon Cake’.

When I’ve taken one of my rare breaks from listening to ‘Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over’ on repeat, I’ve also enjoyed new music from various other artists, such as Years & Years, Beth Crowley, Doja Cat, Marina, Twenty One Pilots, Julia Michaels, Olivia O’Brien, Lauren Jauregui, Aly & AJ and Savannah Outen. ‘Starstruck’ by Years & Years is a song I can’t get enough of – it’s so catchy and makes me want to get up and dance! Savannah Outen’s new song ‘What Are We’ is also amazing – if you haven’t heard of Savannah Outen, she’s basically a YouTube singer who kinda sounds like a mix of Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato. Doja Cat’s latest collaboration, ‘Kiss Me More’, is also worth mentioning. She’s teamed up with SZA and it’s such a good song!

I can’t not include ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ from this month’s playlist! Taylor has been super super busy throughout the pandemic: while she was recording ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, she was also working on new versions of her earlier albums. ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ is the first rerecorded album Taylor released. The original album was released way back in 2008 and includes songs like ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Breathe’. ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ comprises of exactly the same songs, albeit with some unreleased tracks from “The Vault” (e.g. ‘You All Over Me’, ‘Mr Perfectly Fine’ and ‘Don’t You’). All of the songs on ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ sound exactly the same as the originals, although there are some minor changes in terms of breaths. My favourite songs are more or less the same on both versions of ‘Fearless’: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’.

In addition to all the new songs that were released this month, I’ve also rediscovered some of my fave throwback hits from the 2000s, thanks to TikTok! Some examples are ‘Dumb’ by Tich, ‘Scandalous’ by Mis-Teeq and ‘Cliche’ by Christina Grimmie.
