As I’ve got older, I’ve realised how great it is to have a night in. You don’t have to worry about choosing a place to go, spending money you should really be saving, or finding a way to get back home. And do you know what makes a night even better? The one and only Netflix. I love snuggling up and catching up with one of my favourite shows – whether that’s Pretty Little Liars, Once Upon a Time, Gilmore Girls or Jane the Virgin. The thing I’ve noticed about these shows is that they’re all centred around women, who are inspirational in some way or another. It’s so great seeing so many hardworking and independent women on screen.
While I love my laptop, I do think it would be great to have a big screen to watch these shows on. I’ve recently been lusting over the 4KTV Panasonic range. These TVs have amazing picture quality and I’ll guarantee you’ll feel like you’re in a cinema.
So without further ado, here are my top inspirational female TV characters:
1. Sophia Amoruso (Girlboss)
You can’t start off an inspirational female TV characters list without mentioning Sophia Amoruso, the main character in the short-lived Netflix show Girlboss. Yes, she is narcissistic, but she’s also a badass woman who has relatable struggles (e.g. problems with money) and she created her own business when she was just in her 20s.
2. Spencer Hastings (Pretty Little Liars)
If I’m being honest, I wasn’t really keen on Spencer Hastings when I first started watching PLL. However, as the show went on, I started to like her more and more. Spencer is intelligent, ambitious and protective of her friends – three qualities all role models should have. She also struggles with issues many girls her age also deal with, such as a hectic family and the pressure to meet other people’s expectations. Without Spencer, the Liars wouldn’t have been able to figure out the identity of A. Spencer was always that one step ahead.
3. Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)
Who doesn’t love Lorelai Gilmore?! Not only is she funny and laid-back, but she is also a great mother to her daughter Rory. Lorelai proves that you don’t need to have a man by your side to raise intelligent and confident children.
4. Regina Mills (Once Upon a Time)
Sure, she’s evil, but she also cares a lot about Henry and joins together with her rival Snow White in order to defeat the evil that lurks in Storybrooke. And like Lorelai, Regina is not dependent on men, which is a common stereotype in fairytales.
5. Jane Villanueva (Jane the Virgin)
Next up we have Jane Villanueva, star of Jane the Virgin. Jane is one of those characters you can’t help but love. She is caring, intelligent and ambitious, and isn’t afraid to show her emotions. By the end of the fourth season, Jane has gone through so much, but she still manages to stay strong and successfully publishes a book whilst raising a child.
6. Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons)
Last but not list is Lisa Simpson. Lisa is one of the most intelligent female characters out there. She’s wise for her years and speaks out for women. Plus, she’s talented on the saxophone.
