February 2021 Playlist

February 2021 Playlist

Hey guys!

It’s the last day of February, which means it’s time for my February 2021 Playlist! I skipped posting a playlist in January as it was a relatively quiet month in terms of new releases, and I did publish My Favourite Songs of 2020.

While February wasn’t as busy for music as I’d hoped, we did get a whole load of new songs and albums, from artists like Demi Lovato, The Pretty Reckless and Daya. Taylor Swift also released a new version of her first hit ‘Love Story’ – it sounds so similar to the original song, yet different at the same time. And Mariah Carey did an updated version of ‘We Belong Together’, one of her most iconic songs.

Halfway through the month, The Pretty Reckless dropped their latest album ‘Death by Rock and Roll’. For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Pretty Reckless, it’s an American rock band fronted by Taylor Momsen, who is best known for playing Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl and Cindy Lou in How the Grinch Stole Christmas before she decided to focus solely on music. ‘Death by Rock and Roll’ is the band’s fourth album and has 12 songs. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t listen to The Pretty Reckless as often as I’d like, but I love some of their earlier songs, especially ‘Make Me Wanna Die’, ‘Just Tonight’ and ‘Miss Nothing’, as well as the singles they chose from ‘Death by Rock and Roll’. My top songs from ‘Death by Rock and Roll’ would have to be the title track, ‘And So It Went’, ’25’, ‘Got So High’ and ‘Turning Gold’.

At the beginning of February, Demi Lovato teamed up with Sam Fischer, a relatively unknown Australian singer-songwriter, for ‘What Other People Say’, and it is definitely one of my favourite songs of the year so far. It’s a catchy and empowering song that Demi claims is “a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society.” Demi will be releasing her highly anticipated new documentary ‘Dancing with the Devil’ at the end of March, and it seems like there’s a song to go with it, so hopefully we’ll be hearing more music from her in the next few weeks.
