So I didn’t quite manage to watch all the films on my February Watchlist last month, but I did watch a lot of films in general, so I guess it’s not too bad. Unfortunately, most of the films I had been planning to watch are not on Netflix (WHY), and I couldn’t find them on the TV either. There are a few films that stood out in February – read on to find out my thoughts!
I’d been meaning to watch X+Y for months but for some reason I kept putting it off. However, I finally sat down to watch it one cold evening a couple of weeks ago. X+Y is a Netflix original that focuses on a child genius who goes on a trip to Asia to take part in a maths competition. It’s a sweet film, with Asa Butterfield (The Space Between Us, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and Enders Game) playing the lead.
2. Stuck in Love
I think this has become one of my favourite films that I’ve watched recently. I just love Lily Collins, Nat Wolff and Logan Lerman – they’re 3 of the best young actors IMO. I love the fact that literature is one of the main themes in the film; I haven’t watched many films like that before.
Ok, so I don’t know why I waited until AFTER seeing the live musical but oh well! The film is incredible and I LOVE the songs, especially ‘Listen’ and ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’. If you love Beyoncé / musicals, I’d recommend you go check out Dreamgirls RIGHT NOW!
4. Mona Lisa Smile
I really enjoyed Mona Lisa Smile and I love how 99% of the cast is female. I can’t believe that Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles, Ginnifer Goodwin and Krysten Ritter basically haven’t aged AT ALL in over a decade!
I also signed up for Disney Life at the beginning of February and rewatched some of my childhood faves, including The Aristocats, Enchanted, The Jungle Book, Camp Rock and The Lizzie McGuire Movie. I can’t believe it’s been sooo long since I last saw them! I loved Lizzie McGuire as a child – it’s a shame I never got round to watching all the episodes.
The films I didn’t get round to watching in February were How to Be Single, The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud, Crazy / Beautiful, 10 Years, Ginger & Rosa, Boyhood and Before I Go to Sleep.
Here’s my watchlist for this month:
1. Beauty and the Beast (ONE WEEK GUYS)
2. Hidden Figures (perfect timing for this film to be released, what with International Women’s Day being earlier this week)
3. My Girl (how have I never seen this?!)
4. The Runaways (I’m not even familiar with the band this film is based on, but I love Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning so it’s been on my radar for a while now)
5. Silver Linings Playbook (Jennifer Lawrence is so perfect)
6. The Last Five Years (love Anna Kendrick!)
7. Sister Act (I watched this last night – it’s hilarious and I love the music!)
8. Wild (love Reese Witherspoon, and it inspired Lorelai in Gilmore Girls)
I’ll probably rewatch Cinderella (the one with Lily James), Legally Blonde and A Series of Unfortunate Events (so that I can finally start the new Netflix series) at some point in March too.
What films have you seen recently? Have you watched any on this list? Are you looking forward to Beauty & the Beast?
