Films For Galentine’s Day

Hey guys!

Valentine’s Day isn’t just a time for romance and couples. It’s also an excuse to grab your best girl pals and a bucket of popcorn and chill in front of the TV for an evening. After it was first introduced by Leslie Knope in Parks and Rec, this day became known as ‘Galentine’s Day’ and is celebrated by women all over the world.

Unfortunately, Galentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, which is a bit of a pain if you have school, uni, work or an interview the next day. However, you can always schedule your girly night in for the weekend and turn it into a sleepover.

So now that you’ve sorted out a date, and got your besties and snacks, it’s time to pick the movies. I know how difficult it can be to decide what films to watch, and that’s where this blog post comes in handy! I’ve included a whole range of girly films suitable for all ages, ranging from Disney, musicals, classic romantic films, and teen films.

For teens & tweens

A Cinderella Story – Because we all dream about meeting our prince one day…

Ella Enchanted – Ditto

Mean Girls – So I’m guessing you’ve all seen Mean Girls (if not, where have you been?!), but it’s the kind of film you can watch over and over again and not get bored. It’s funny, relatable, and stars Lindsay Lohan before she went downhill.

Clueless – Cher’s wardrobe is goals!

13 Going On 30 – What 13 year old doesn’t want to be grown up and independent?

Beauty and the Beast – Any excuse to watch the original before the live-action remake comes out in March!

She’s the Man – For LOLs and hot Channing Tatum.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging – Because who didn’t have a mahosive crush on Robbie (a.k.a. Aaron Taylor-Johnson) as a teen?!

Wild Child – Emma Roberts plays a spoilt American teen who is sent off to a boarding school in England and falls in love with Alex Pettyfer.

10 Things I Hate About You – For Heath Ledger

Sleepover – This is a classic teen girly film and it’s about a group of girls who end up completing a series of dares during a sleepover.

What A Girl Wants – Amanda Bynes flies across the Atlantic to find her father, a.k.a. the Prime Minister of the UK, a.k.a. Colin Firth.

Lemonade Mouth – Kinda like a more contemporary version of The Breakfast Club, except it’s a musical and the kids in detention form a band. Love the songs!

The Lizzie McGuire Movie – I used to love this film when I was younger! ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’ is such a great song!

St Trinian’sThis film is hilarious! The girls at St Trinian’s are so mischievous!

The DUFF – Bianca is so sassy!

Power of Friendship

The Craft

Pitch Perfect – Where would a Galentine’s Day movie list be without a musical? I’ve chosen Pitch Perfect because it celebrates female friendship and the songs are so catchy.

Bridesmaids – One of the best chick flicks of recent years and totally hilarious!

Jem and the Holograms – This movie was an epic fail, but I personally really enjoyed it and I think teens will love it too. It has everything – catchy tunes, likeable characters, and a hot guy. I love how the sisters (and adopted sisters) are so close and won’t let anything come between them.

Little Women – Also power of sisters.

Material Girls – Ditto

From Prada to Nada – Ditto

Wish Upon a Star – Ditto, and kinda like Freaky Friday

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants This is the ultimate friendship film and it stars Blake Lively (Serena in Gossip Girl) and Alexis Bledel (Rory in Gilmore Girls).

Bride Wars – When besties Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) find out that their weddings have been scheduled for the same day, things get messy. Cue lots of bitchiness and a bright orange Anne Hathaway!

Mamma Mia Okay, so Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried are related in this film, but I love their mother-daughter friendship.

Because I Said So – This film also deals with the friendship between a mother and her three daughters.

Freaky FridayAlso mother-daughter friendship.

The Cheetah Girls

Wild Child

The friendship of the girls in The Cheetah Girls, Bratz and Wild Child is goals. What girl didn’t want to be part of a girl group like The Cheetah Girls when they were growing up?

Independent Women

Miss Congeniality

Legally Blonde – Because guys shouldn’t get in the way!

Bend It Like Beckham – This is a feel-good British movie with an important message: Don’t let other people and stereotypes stop you from chasing your dreams.

The Heat

Frozen This could also go under ‘Power of Friendship’ tbh.

The Princess and the Frog

The Fault in Our Stars

Finding Neverland

Soul Surfer

Endless Love

The Longest Ride – Who doesn’t love a bit of Nicholas Sparks?!

The Last Song

If I Stay

Now Is Good

My Sister’s Keeper

Me Before You

Valentine’s Day – Okay, so it may be really cheesy, but what’s better than a film starring Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts and Julia Roberts?! Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner also make appearances.

Romeo and Juliet – Ultimate romantic film

Bridget Jones’s Diary – No sleepover is complete without Bridget Jones!

Love Actually – Because it’s not just suitable for Christmas.

Confessions of a Shopaholic Can’t believe I almost forgot to include this film! It’s one of my faves! As you can tell from the title, it’s about a shopaholic! After a misunderstanding, Becky (Isla Fisher) becomes a financial journalist and advices other women how to cope with their addiction to shopping.

The Sound of Music
