May Favourites

may favourites

Hey guys!

I feel like it’s kinda strange doing a ‘favourites’ post when it has been a really awful week, but we’ve got to try to spread some positivity. This month I’ve enjoyed quite a mixture of things, including my trip to Milan a couple of weeks ago and the Netflix adaptation of 13 Reasons Why. I’ve also taken lots of photos around Chelsea and Notting Hill (I’m such a stereotype!) and had my first ever proper job interview (the previous ones were all for internships). So here are my May Favourites:

*

1. Milan

So I was initially going to write a whole post about things to see and do in Milan, but unfortunately I was only there for a couple of days (*sob*) so I wasn’t able to visit much. However, I did get to see the cat café (which I highly recommend BTW), and the Duomo di Milano (a cathedral in the centre of the city). It was also nice to spend time with my friends again too – I hadn’t seen a couple of them since SitC 2014 – waaay too long!

2. 13 Reasons Why

I finally got round to watching 13 Reasons Why during the PLL break last week, and I thought it was amazing. I know it’s received so much criticism but I think it portrays the topic of suicide really well. I’ll admit that there were a few scenes I just couldn’t watch, and there are some parts that are unsuitable for younger audiences, but it is such an important show. It’ll make you realise just how much impact your words and actions can have on other people. You can read more about my thoughts of 13 Reasons Why here.

3. Wonder

Although completely different to 13 Reasons Why, Wonder also explores just how cruel kids can be. It focuses on Auggie (short for August), a boy who was born with a face deformity. He was home-schooled due to all the hospital appointments he had to go to, until his parents decide that it’s time for him to start a normal school. Joining a new school is a tough experience for anyone, but it’s particularly difficult for Auggie. Most of the other kids just don’t understand that Auggie can’t help the way he looks, and being different doesn’t make him any less of a human being. I definitely recommend Wonder and I’ll guarantee you’ll want to hug Auggie by the end.

4. I Love Mint Choc Chip Shower Gel

I’m currently using the I Love Mint Choc Chip Shower Gel and it smells divine. It reminds me of mint ice cream, which is my absolute fave. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s available anywhere at the moment 🙁

I Love Mint

I think the best time to post about your favorites is when you aren’t feeling so positive! It’ll lift your spirits 🙂 It’s like that thing where if you smile, you actually feel better. Great post, too! I’m a teacher assistant in fourth grade and the teacher read Wonder to her students, and they ate it up. They absolutely loved it. You’re right that it’s completely different from 13 Reasons Why, but it shares the same message. As for 13 Reasons, I loved it too, but I think it’s better for a mainstream population who have never actually suffered with those issues. The message was intended for them, so they would be nicer to people. However, another message got to suicidal people, which seemed to say that if you kill yourself, everyone will finally feel bad about what they did to you. Which is definitely not helpful. On a lighter note, I cannot wait to try mint chocolate chip shower gel!!

  2. Wonder looks interesting – I’ll have to look into watching that! This month I’ve been loving a new clean and clear facewash I’ve been using, and a new popsocket I bought for my phone – it helps protect from falling out of my hands, very useful!

Milan sounds amazing, it’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit! And I loved 13 reasons why too, although I agree there were some parts I just couldn’t watch! Love your favourites post!

  5. I have been to Milan but only for one day so could not see much of it! Turin is really pretty also! I lived there for a year and it’s one hour away by train. I haven’t seen 13 reasons why but everybody is talking about it so I feel I should watch it ! xx corinne
