My Favourite Songs of 2020

My Favourite Songs of 2020

Hey guys!

I was planning to post my favourite songs of 2020 DAYS ago, but I had SO many songs to choose from that it was very difficult to narrow them down! Despite all the atrocities of 2020, it was surprisingly a good year for music and I added well over 1000 new songs to my library. While I listened to my favourite artists (like Demi Lovato, JoJo, Miley Cyrus and Halsey), I also tried to listen to some lesser known singers, such as SayGrace, Davina Michelle, Dynamyte and Kira Kosarin. In 2020, I loved listening to pop rock songs released by artists like Yungblud and Maggie Lindemann, as well as tunes that were big hits on TikTok (think ‘Say So’ – I know it was technically released in 2019, but it only became a big hit last year and the remix was dropped in 2020), soundtrack songs (e.g. ‘In The Mirror’, ‘Loyal Brave True’ and ‘Invisible Chains’) and ballads (unsurprisingly, Demi Lovato released some of my fave ballads of 2020).

Of course ‘Anyone’ would have to be one of my favourite songs of 2020. It was the first song she released after her overdose in 2018, and her powerful performance at the Grammys moved me to tears. After ‘Anyone’ Demi released a few more ballads – the notable of which are ‘Still Have Me’ (which she dropped after her breakup with Max Ehrich) and ‘Commander in Chief’ (which is directed at Donald Trump) – as well as a few upbeat bops (e.g. ‘I Love Me’).

Another artist I had to include in this post is Melody Thornton. As an ex-member of The Pussycat Dolls, you would’ve thought that her debut album would’ve made more noise, but unfortunately it fell under the radar. ‘Lioness Eyes’ is inspired by Spaghetti Western films, and consists of a total of 7 songs, which is quite short for an album. I’d have to say that ‘Lioness Eyes’ is probably my Number 1 favourite album of 2020: all the songs are brilliant, memorable, and showcase Melody’s powerful vocals. She hasn’t tried too hard to be mainstream, like a lot of other artists. I’m so looking forward to hearing more music from her!

Other artists I fell in love with in 2020 include Kelsea Ballerini, Kira Kosarin and Eyelar. I was aware of Kelsea and Kira back in 2019, but only really properly started listening to them in 2020; Eyelar was completely new to me in 2020. I discovered Eyelar through Demi Lovato: she’s a Dutch songwriter who has written a few hits for bigger artists such as Demi Lovato (‘Anyone’) and Little Mix (‘Told You So’), and started dropping her own original songs last year. ‘Couple Hours’ and ‘Say It With Your Eyes’ are my favourite songs that Eyelar has released so far.

Below you can find my playlist of my favourite songs of 2020. Of course, there are so many more songs I could’ve added, but these are the ones that I stood out the most! There were loads of artists who released multiple amazing songs in 2020 so I’ve included my absolute favourite favourite ones (I honestly could’ve added the entirety of ‘Plastic Hearts’, ‘CALM’, ‘Manic’, ‘Rare’, ‘Good to Know’, ‘The Defining Moments of SAYGRACE’ and ‘kelsea’, but then I wouldn’t have been able to feature such a wide range of artists!) . Oh, btw, these songs are in no particular order!

  7. I’m so bad at listening to new songs – I tend to just play my favourites on repeat. But, I will always listen to Little Mix’s latest songs when they come out <3

Yes, it is so tempting to just listen to the same songs all the time, but I love discovering new music too! Thanks for stopping by!

  9. I really miss discovering new music. In normal times I have BBC radio 6Music on all day long, with the kids home learning I don’t have music playing so that I can hear if they need me. My running playlist is therefore getting stagnant as I’m not finding new songs to add.
