November 2018 Playlist

Hey guys!

November was a bit of a quiet month compared to October, in terms of the number of good songs released, but there were still some really great tracks. The most notable song of the month would have to be Ariana’s ‘thank u, next’, which is a new kind of break-up song that paints exes in a positive light instead of dragging them. ‘thank u, next’ pretty much broke the internet in its first few days and has received so much praise from not only fans, but celebrities and the general public too. Ariana is planning to drop the music video within the next week, and given that it is inspired by Mean Girls13 Going On 30, Legally Blonde and Bring It On, it’s highly likely that Ariana will get the most views of the year and break even more records.

Other artists that dropped new music in November include Mariah Carey, Little Mix, Ashley Tisdale and Katy Perry. If I’m being honest, I didn’t think Little Mix’s new album lived up to the hype, but I liked the whole concept behind it, and songs like Monster In Me, Told You So and The Cure really stood out. On the other hand, I absolutely love Mariah Carey’s fifteenth album ‘Caution’ – it’s great to see that she’s still slaying after almost 30 years in the industry.

‘The Greatest Showman: Reimagined’ was another album released in November that deserved more recognition. As I loved the film, I was really excited when I heard that they were going to release an album full of covers by some of the biggest names in music, such as Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Kesha. Pink’s cover of ‘A Million Dreams’ is fantastic, as is Panic! At The Disco’s version of ‘The Greatest Show’ (the punk rock sound fits the song perfectly), Kelly Clarkson’s version of ‘Never Enough’, Kesha’s version of ‘This Is Me’, and Sara Bareilles’ version of ‘Tightrope’. I was a little bit disappointed that James Arthur and Anne-Marie had been chosen to cover ‘Rewrite the Stars’, as the Zac Efron and Zendaya version is amazing, and I’ve never been that keen on James Arthur and Anne-Marie, but it turned out to be (slightly) better than I thought.

  2. OMG, I feel so ignorant and out of touch ahah! I have not listened to any of those tunes! Well, I will add them to my commuting playlist ahah

  3. I loved the message behind thank u, next!
There’s so many break up songs but I’ve never heard one like this – they’re usually either angry and cursing all the wrongs done to the singer, or really sad and mopey! I enjoyed Ariana’s take – accepting that each relationship, whether good or bad, does make you grow and change as a person, and that growth is positive even if the relationship isn’t!
