Top Ten Tuesday: Freebie – 10 Non-Fairytale Retellings I Want to Read

Hi bookworms!

After doing the post about Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read / Want to Read, I decided to do another one, only this time it will focus on non-fairytale retellings, rather than fairytale retellings. This includes retellings of Shakespeare plays, Alice in Wonderland and Disney.

1. Romiette and Julio

This is currently sitting on my shelf and I’m planning to read it very soon. I love books about star-crossed lovers.

2. Alice in Zombieland

I wasn’t so keen on this book when I first heard about it – Alice in a land of zombies? No thanks (I much prefer vampires to zombies anyway). However, I noticed that Alice in Wonderland was being made into a film and there are lots of positive reviews about the book, so it can’t be that bad, right?! I think I’ll give it a chance.

3. A Whole New World

I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK NOW! It looks amazing! I love the cover too!

4. The Looking Glass Wars

More Alice in Wonderland? Yes please!

5. Great

A retelling of The Great Gatsby sounds so intriguing.

6. Still Star-Crossed

Another book based on Romeo and Juliet. Yay 😀

7. Avalon High

Meg Cabot is without a doubt one of my favourite authors. I’m so surprised I haven’t read Avalon High. I did, however, watch the TV movie starring Britt Robertson a few years ago. It was all right, but I think I’d prefer the book.

8. Tiger Lily

I love Peter Pan! I’m quite interested in reading a book about one of the other characters.

9. Never Never

This isn’t even out yet but I can’t wait to read it! Like Tiger Lily, Never Never is based on Peter Pan. It takes more of a dark turn though.

10. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

I loved Wicked the Musical, so much so that I actually saw it twice! I’d love to read the book it’s based on. You’d think I’d be put off by the negative reviews, but I have wanted to read this book for quite a long time.

What books would be on your list? Have you read any of the retellings I’ve mentioned?
